What Are Examples of Therapeutic Services?

Therapeutic services are designed to support individuals in improving their mental, emotional, and physical wellbeing. Under the NDIS, these supports aim to help participants achieve greater independence, build life skills, and enhance their overall quality of life.

Common examples of therapeutic services include:

  • Psychology & Counselling: Helps with managing anxiety, depression, trauma, and behavioural challenges.
  • Occupational Therapy (OT): Builds daily living skills, motor function, and home/workplace accessibility.
  • Speech Therapy: Assists with communication difficulties, speech delays, and swallowing disorders.
  • Physiotherapy: Supports physical rehabilitation, mobility improvement, and pain management.
  • Behaviour Support: Focuses on managing complex behaviours and developing positive behavioural strategies.
  • Art or Music Therapy: Uses creative approaches to improve emotional and cognitive wellbeing

Who Needs Therapeutic Support?

Therapeutic support is for anyone living with a disability, mental health condition, or developmental delay who requires assistance in managing aspects of daily life. This includes:

  • Individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD)
  • People experiencing mental health challenges
  • Participants recovering from injury or surgery
  • Children and adults with developmental delays
  • Those with communication, learning, or mobility difficulties

Therapeutic support is tailored to the unique goals and needs of each participant, whether it’s learning to communicate more effectively, gaining independence at home, or improving physical function.
