What’s not covered?

While the NDIS provides essential support for people with disabilities, it doesn’t fund everyday living expenses that everyone typically incurs. These include:

  • Food & Pre-Prepared Meals: The NDIS doesn’t pay for groceries or the cost of meals themselves, including meal delivery services. However, it may cover the cost of support to prepare and deliver meals if required due to your disability.
  • Personal Care Items: Toiletries, cosmetics, and other personal products not directly related to your disability are excluded.
  • Groceries & Household Essentials: Items like food, drinks, cleaning products, and general household or health-related supplies are considered everyday expenses and aren’t funded.
  • Leisure & Recreation: Costs related to hobbies, sports, or other fun activities—like gym memberships or art classes—are not covered under your plan.
  • Beauty Services: Treatments such as manicures, pedicures, and other cosmetic services aren’t eligible for funding.
  • Housing Expenses: The NDIS doesn’t cover rent, mortgage repayments, or board.
  • Event Tickets: Attending concerts, movies, festivals, or other events is considered a personal cost and isn’t included in NDIS funding.
